Janardhana Temple
Janardhana Temple is about 2000 years old and one of the major tourists attractions in Varkala. The temple does not allow the non- Hindus to enter the inner sanctum. It was orginally a Vishnu shrine and was destroyed by tidal waves. A Pandyan king rebuilt the shrine afterward.
Sivagiri Mutt Sivagiri Mutt just 3 kms from the Janardhan temple was founded by Sree Narayana Guru (1856 – 1952).The mutt is the headquarter of Sree Narayana Dharma. Sivagiri Pilgrimage which is held every year between 30th December and 1st January
Varkala Tunnel Varkala Tunnel was constructed in the 19th century .The tunnel is 924 ft and took 14 years for completion. Popularly known as 'Varkala Turuthu', this tunnel was built under the supervision of Divan Sheshaya Sasthri and was extensively used for ferrying of goods.
